Howe It Is
Do me a favor and reread the entire title of the book in the above picture. Go ahead, I'll wait...
Good, you're back. Alright now, folks, this is getting serious. By all accounts, the "Twilight" novels aren't even well-written, but merely entertaining. Although the novels may contain a varied vocabulary, it is difficult for me to believe that it is beneficial to have high school students study the "Twilight" series to help study for college entrance exams. I have only two arguments for this: students should read a variety of materials to get a well-rounded notion of form and context and if students have to study the words in a series of young adult books then they need to study far more than the SATs.
On top of this, the author and the published reviews on the book provide no educational credentials. I am all for improving the literacy of our youth, but there just because something is popular, does not make it appropriate.
