What's Happening
Well, it’s that time again. School is back in session across the country, and it’s no different for me. Entering my 2nd year at Metro State, I’m excited that I’ll finally be declaring my major and applying for entrance into the Social Work program. All my classes are online this semester, which will demand every ounce of commitment and discipline. Hopefully, this will also allow me some free time I would not otherwise have.
The most promising class, at this point, would appear to be my men’s psychology class, “Men’s Lives: The American Male.” Looking through the text, there should be plenty of dialogue on male sexuality and gender identification. Many of my colleagues at school come from the armed forces, criminal justice fields, or foreign cultures; many of them may be looking at the book and realizing the class is not what they thought it might be.
Oh, I know! How terrible of me to make assumptions about my classmates. Though, if you know me, I’m sure you heard about my classmate “Ken,” from last year. The man had serious issues with trust and prejudice, and yet he was going into law enforcement. Sadly, that is something I have seen in many of my classes. It does appear that many of our up and coming law enforcement students come from some area of life or career that has set them up to be homophobic, racist and sexist--something that worries me deeply about the future of my generation. I HOPE may classmates prove me wrong; I will give them every opportunity.
But listen to me, I’m starting to get to serious, and there is plenty of time for that in my homework.
Until next time.
