Over the last week, while I have been off work recovering from surgery, I have been cruising through Netflix. There are many terrible movies on the instant play, but there are also some wonderful surprises as well.
The first joy I discovered was the entire X Files series, which I have already watched 3 seasons of. I always enjoyed the show, but didn't watch after the first movie was released. So now, I am excited to watch the show through to the end. I do understand David Duchovny left the show in later seasons, so I wonder how that affected the show.
I also discovered almost every season of Law & Order: SVU, which is just about the only investigative show I enjoy. I was never a fan of Law & Order, CSI or any of the other shows of that style. Not only are Chris Meloni and Mariska Hargitay attractive people and great actors, but the subject matter of the show allows the characters to tap into real anger and pain in their acting more so than many other crime shows.
This morning, I was settling in for some Mulder and Scully time, when I decided to look through some "Movies you'll love" suggestions. Then I saw it. Murder She Wrote.
When I was young, it was quite common for my family to watch Jessica Fletcher solve crimes in New York or her cozy little town of Cabot Cove. I try to be "with it" and cool, but the truth is, sometimes I have the most fun with what some people might call "grandpa tv," like Murder She Wrote, Matlock and other 80s crime shows. It's like comfort food for my eyes. Since I have read all the books that I had stocked up for this week, the tube has provided some much needed entertainment. Since I don't have cable, the urge to watch television is wonderfully filled by Netflix.
Now the only problem I have is how to finish watching these shows on the verge of the new television season. I like to tune into Desperate Housewives and Ghost Hunters online.
Don't worry though, you'll never catch me watching reality television like Jersey Whore, er... Shore.
I love SVU, Cris e Mariska.
ReplyDeleteI like those "grandpa" shows too. What's the one with Peter Falk? Colombo! ("Oh, just one more question. . . .")
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of trenchcoats, I used to LOVE watching the old 1960's Pink Panther movies.
And I assume you've seen the movie "Murder by Death" and "Deathtrap"?
